Larmer Tree Gardens Wedding Photographer – Sarah and Darren

When I first met Sarah and Darren and they told me about their wedding at the Larmer Tree Gardens I was excited, having worked here before and knowing what a beautiful venue it is. As I found our more about their wedding I was more and more excited, they were to get married at the local church in Irwene Minster and have a red Route-master bus take all their guests from there to the Larmer Tree Gardens (it was fun following the bus down the narrow country lanes). Both Sarah and Darren are in the Navy so it was exciting to get emails from the Enterprise! (reminded me of Star-Trek)
Their big day finally arrived and the day started off at the family cottage where I photographed Sarah getting ready in the Garden Shed. It was lovely 🙂 Then Darren was waiting at the Church, Sarah was only a little bit late (brides are allowed). After a lovely service it was off to her parents gardens for some portraits before heading off to the Larmer Tree Gardens for some formal and fun photography. The Larmer Tree Gardens has lots of games like Jenga, space hoppers, badminton and rounders. It’s such a relaxed and beautiful place. We took this opportunity to take some more portraits too. This was also the first time I’ve had a calling peacock in the formal photographs, it certainly made everyone laugh!
The wedding breakfast room at the Larmer Tree Gardens was setup beautifully as always, with some beautiful touches by Sarah and Darren. These touches included special candles, home made jam, country flowers arranged specially for each table. It was a very intimate and close wedding, lots of attention to detail and you could feel the love between them both.
After some brilliant speeches it was time for the First Dance – a bit I know Darren wasn’t looking forward to. Don’t worry though Darren I also video’d the First Dance for you.

Cams Hall Fareham Asian Wedding Photographer – Saira and Rizwan – A Hampshire Wedding

Cams Hall Fareham Asian Wedding Photographer – Saira and Rizwan

Cams Hall near Fareham was the venue for my First Asian Wedding (it won’t be my last!). I’d already photographed the Mehndi earlier in the week at POSH in Southampton, Hampshire which had been great fun. As this was my first Asian wedding I wasn’t quite sure what to expect but had been given a lot of advice and knew that I would be able to be in the right place at the right time and capture the day as it unfolded. I can only say what a spectacular day and I really could get used to shooting more Asian weddings!

The day started with lots of bridal preparation with Saira in the room getting ready for the wedding. She was very calm which is always a good sign in my eyes 🙂 I loved having so much time for the bridal preparations and there were so many details and the colour was amazing! After that we did some bridal portraits which I have to say again that I loved doing! Everyone was so relaxed it was a joy to get some time to do these. As you’ll see later we got some stunning ones!

I really struggled to pick the images for this blog article as there were simply so many! I can’t wait to shoot my next wedding at Cams Hall (later this year I’m back) and also to shoot my next Asian wedding – so if you’re planning either an Asian Wedding or a Wedding at Cams Hall then Please get in touch!

Athelhampton House Wedding Photographer – Sue and John – A Dorset Wedding

Athelhampton House Wedding Photographer – Sue and John – A Dorset Wedding

Athelhampton House is a lovely wedding venue in Dorset, near Puddletown. I’d met up with Sue and John for there engagement shoot previously but it was surprising how quickly the wedding day came around. I arrived early for Sue getting ready at a lovely cottage in Tolpuddle (I’ve actually photographed at the church in Tolpuddle before). The villages round here are all lovely little villages. After doing some photographs of Sue and some of the details it was off to see Andrew at another cottage a little further up the road (it was nice to be able to walk to it). Here I was greeted with my favourite – a nice bacon sandwich 🙂 Andrew looked great in his kilt and special belt that had been presented to him by Sue as a present 🙂

After this is was off to Puddletown Church where I captured some of the people arriving and also it started to rain a little bit. Though as was fitting a wedding day the sunshine was to make an appearance for the photographs later on in the day. Then there was a lovely service where I was able to take some photographs from the balcony at the back of the Church (thankyou Vicar!). From here it was onto Athelhampton House for the wedding reception. Athelhampton House is lovely and the staff there are so accomodating – thanks everyone!

We did some formal photographs then I concentrated on capturing the day with what the guests were doing. I then sneaked John and Sue away for 15 minutes to do some portraits in the lovely Gardens. It was also a good opportunity for Sue and John to get some time alone together as Man and Wife 🙂

So without further delay here are some photographs for you to enjoy.

Parley Manor Wedding Photographer – Matt and Hannah

Parley Manor Wedding Photographer – Matt and Hannah

Yesterday saw me at Parley Manor second shooting with Tim Churchill for the wedding of Matt and Hannah. What a lovely laid back couple. You may remember my second shooting wedding photographer article a few weeks ago. I love second shooting as it lets me get some great additional images and different perspectives than the main photographer. It also lets me be a bit more experimental that I could be normally. This is why I still love second shooting. After all practice helps right? I believe that we can learn from everyone we shoot with, me and Tim shoot a lot together so we have a good idea of where the other is going to stand and means that we get shots from different angles meaning we can work together faster. I also offer a second photographer in my collections, together with a HD wedding video option.

For the photographers/interested amongst you I used my Panasonic GX1 alongside my canon 1ds3 mark 3 and 135mm f/2 L lens to take these images (The Canon is soon to be sold). I have to say it was a great and lightweight combination.

Thanks go to Tim and Hannah and Matt. Here’s a few wedding images you might like.

Nikon 28mm f/1.8G AF-S review and first impressions

Nikon 28mm f/1.8G AF-S mini review and first impressions

I recently purchases the new Nikon 28mm f/1.8 AF-S prime. This isn’t a full review, just some first impressions on how I use and rate this lens. I have been using a 35mm F/2 lens, and this is great though can be a bit too tight for some situations (bridal preparations and smaller wedding venues is one). So when I saw the announcement of the reasonably priced (£600) 28mm f/1.8 AFS lens then I put my name down straight away. To put this lens in context a little history lesson is needed. When I was shooting Canon and Nikon cameras then Canon were streets ahead when it came to prime lenses, they had 24mm g/1.4 L and a 35mm f/1.4 L together with a 50mm f/1.2 L and a 85mm f/1.2 L. This gave canon the real advantage when it came to shooting primes. However Nikon came back recently with the 24mm f/1.4 and 35mm f/1.4 lenses and also updates to the 50mm f/1.4 and 85mm f/1.4. Additionally Nikon also updated their other primes, the 50mm f/1.8G AFS and the 85mm f/1.8G AFS. With the 28mm f/1.8G AFS Nikon have finally given photographers a great choice of tools at our disposal. The advantage of the 1.8G lenses are lightness, portability and also great quality too.

How good is the Nikon 28mm f/1.8G?

So how does the 28mm f/1.8G AFS fare? First impressions are very well indeed. Build is good, focusing is silent and quick, images are very sharp and flare and high contrast situations are handled very well. I’ve used this lens at a couple of weddings now and am very impressed with the bokeh (out of focus areas) and the image quality. It’s just wide enough to give more of a storytelling aspect, but not as wide as the 24mm f/1.4G AFS that I always found a bit too wide and distorted to resign it to an occasional use lens.

Verdict
