It’s been a year or so since i’ve shot a wedding at Lulworth Castle. Despite being February the weather was kind and I didn’t even need to wear a jacket. There were some awesome chair covers and some great touches too. Delicious cup cakes. Awesome pork pies and some lush wines too. And there was also an amazing wedding.

Got to love an early spring wedding!

I love doing pre wedding engagement shoots. It’s a great way to meet up with couples and have some fun and try out lots of different stuff. So it was of course great to meet up with Zoe and Al near Blandford to go for a walk and enjoy the woods ahead of their wedding later this year! Was great catching up and look forward to photographing your wedding later this year!

I hope the jar decorating is going well too 🙂

Fine Art Albums Now available

Fine Art Albums Now available

One think I love about wedding photography is the ability to show off the photographs in an awesome wedding album. I’m always looking for new styles of albums that my couples might like. In fact over my many years in business I’ve changed album suppliers a few times now, for various reasons. I’m committed to giving people the best albums and the best choice of albums at different budgets and styles. It’s with this in mind I’ve found a lovely leather covered fine art album, I do love the smell of leather.. but I digress. It gives a great luxury feel and can be embossed with your names or phrase. So obviously I ordered some samples so you can see what they look like next time you pop into the studio 🙂

There’s a larger burghandy (bacon) coloured album and then a wonderful smaller companion tangerine colour (other colours are available of course 🙂 ).

Victorian Barn Wedding Showcase

Victorian Barn Wedding Showcase

I love photographing weddings at the Victorian Barn (see Ali and Michelles and Rhea and Liams to name but a few), so I loved it when I was invited along as the sole photographer to display my images and offer my own brand of awesome photography for bride and grooms at the Victorian Barn. It was also nice to see lots of my bride and grooms who are booked with me this year too!

It was great to meet Penny and the team again too, together with all the suppliers who came along to make the occasion so superb. I look forward to working with everyone again this year and in the future 🙂 As well as loving being a wedding photographer I love taking photos in general so of course I took a selection of images today at various stages to help highlight the talent on display. There were delicious cakes, awesome wine, amazing jewelry, super wedding dressed, ice cool ice-cream men, great vintage china, great chair covers, scintillating wedding stationary, great transport, a cheerful creche, soundful singers, delightful DJ, perfect wedding planners, fantastic florist, sweet sweet cart; I’m running out of words and also probably going to forget someone (apologies I still have baby brain)! It was great to see everyone there today! Will be awesome making mesmerising memories together and I’ll be there to recording it photographically (and maybe with some moving images or video).

The day started with amazing blue skies with gorgeous views, everyone setup and the venue looked gorgeous as ever! A really amazing place to photograph a wedding. So if you’re looking for a fabulous country style venue then you may well have found your ideal wedding venue so speak to Penny and the team at the Victorian Barn. Reaction to Sony A6300, 24-70/2.8, 70-200/2.8 and 85/1.4 FE lenses

Reaction to Sony A6300, 24-70/2.8, 70-200/2.8 and 85/1.4 FE lenses

So today Sony announced the successor to the A6000 which had been a while coming but also interestingly there was 3 more fast aperture FE lenses. The classic fast zooms namely 24-70/2.8 and 70-200/2.8 (with 1.4x and 2.0x) together with a 85/1.4. Now I don’t really use the 2.8 zooms anymore, i am mostly able to move my feet and not rely on zooms. However I can see how for many shooters this might be the thing that enables them to fully switch to the Sony system for all their work. The 85/1.4 is more interesting for me as it’s a good option as many use 35/85 1.4 lenses as their main use. There is the zeiss batis 85/1.8 but it’s not an original sony and is 1.8 (personally I think 1.8 is sufficient given the optical properties it shows). But 1.4 is a nice option to have and might make some cheap zeiss batis’ available second hand for the people who want the extra 2/3 of a stop 🙂

The A6300 was interesting too, sometimes you need a bit more speed and 11fps from the a6300 means a better chance of getting open eyes (bonus!) in group shots and more frames to choose from for confetti shots. Given the quality of APS-C size sensors these days it’s a great option and one i’m looking forward to trying asap. (Sony UK feel free to send me one to try :)). Throw in crazy 425 phase detect points and ability to use A-mount lenses (and also i suspect EF mount lenses via adapter too- TBC). Exciting times to be a photographer. Oh plus 4K video and a reasonably low purchase price. Only missing things are touch screen, dual card slots. Got all the usual wifi, nfc, great image quality. Come to Greggles!
