Welcome to my review of Second Shootr - this is not intended to fully explain what you can and can't do with Second Shootr, just a summary of my experiences with having used it for a while now as a Beta Tester (the bride/groom details may be made up for review purposes yadda yadda yadda ;) ).

Firstly what is Second Shootr? Well let the guys at SecondShootr explain (feel free to skip this bit if you've read all the blurb already and skip to my review comments below):

Client info and questionnaire
Second Shootr allows you to capture and store detailed information about your clients, ranging from their names, addresses and phone numbers to their wedding's theme or the name of the band at their reception.

You can easily locate the wedding venue at the touch of a screen using the integrated Google Maps feature – not just integrated into your portable device, but integrated right into the Second Shootr app – meaning you don't have to waste time flicking through applications.
Second Shootr allows you to get hold of your bride or groom by simply calling or emailing them through the app. No need to fill up your personal address book with these temporary contacts – all your wedding clients are stored in one place..easy to access when you need them..
We've already included the more common questions that you'll need to ask your clients (names, addresses...that sorta thing), but you can completely customise Second Shootr to your business requirements by adding in your own questionnaire questions. The more you know about your couple's wedding before it happens, the more you can concentrate on doing what you do best....taking awesome wedding photos.

People info
In the heat of the moment, do you sometimes forget the best man's name, or end up wildly pointing at the mother of the bride instead of calling her by her name? Second Shootr allows you to capture and store names and details of all the important wedding guests.
This may at first seem like a trivial feature, but its the small features (like knowing who the bride's father is) that takes you from being your average wedding photographer, to being up there with the best.
Second Shootr will also save details about the vicar, hotel manager and caterer (to name but a few). Better still, if you need to get hold of one of the wedding's key people in a hurry, just open up Second Shootr and give them a call!

Photos
Every wedding photographer, whether a veteran or a newbie, needs to keep track of the shots left to take. Whether you just want to keep a track of all the group shots, or maybe try something a bit arty and new, Second Shootr will help you to remember the must-have shots you'll need to take on the day.

Second Shootr also allows you to save examples of new and exciting shots to try out on the big day, giving you an instant visual reminder of the pictures you want to capture. You can download ideas off of the internet*, snap quick images using your iPhone integrated camera, or pick an exiting images from your photo library. That's much better than scribbling some ideas down on the back of a napkin in the 10 minutes before the ceremony kicks off!

Events
When you're in the thick of it on the wedding day, time can go by in a flash. Second Shootr is there to give you a gentle reminder to let you know where you need to be on the day, and at what time.
When you're meeting your clients before the wedding make sure they give you a list of the day's main events, pop them into Second Shootr, and the job's done!

Kit List
Have you ever forgotten a key piece of equipment and you've had to spend the day in a blind panic trying to make-do without it? No matter how hard you prepare, there's a chance you'll forget something! Second Shootr helps add that extra layer of protection by helping you remember every piece of kit, every time. Just cross off the items as you pack them into your bags in the morning, and check them back in again when you're packing up from the wedding ready to go home.
As with all the Second Shootr features, its completely customisable to your business – log down your own kit... no generic lists here!

To Do
Before and after the wedding, Second Shootr is the app that just keeps on helping. The application will help you to remember to do pretty much anything relating to the wedding...from remembering to file the signed contracts, to reminding you to post the prints to the client, Second Shootr's got your back!

What do I think?
I was lucky enough to be a beta tester for Second Shootr. So let me give you my thoughts of the above features:

Client info and questionnaire
I find this good for letting me keep track of all my weddings and making sure i have enough information about them, i use this in conjunction with the To Do list to make sure i can keep all my deliverables and deadlines met.

People info
This means I can keep all my clients contact details all together- I tend to just store the phone numbers and addresses of the bride and groom here - I would like to be able to link to native address book so i don't have change numbers in 2 different places.

Photos
I use this for storing the group photos a couple want - I normally keep these to a minimum so it's nice to add any specific ones to this list so i don't need to keep referring to a piece of paper - if I have an assistant I can give them my iPhone and we just tick the photos off as we take them. I also use it to stored the standard photos such as ring shots, back of the dress/etc.

Kit List
This can be used to list out which bits of kit you need to take, I tend not to use this bit much, simply because i tend to take a mix of stuff to each wedding, i can see how for the more OCD photographer this would become invaluable.

To Do
This feature i really like - it means i can put in a series of dates for before and after the wedding such as when they get back off honeymoon so i'll know when the couple are going to be home. Nice idea and well implemented.

Events
I love this bit A LOT - it means i don't need a check sheet of paper (though i do have a printout just in case). It's very easy to keep track of things this way. Great idea and works really well. I'd like to be able to give time ranges - maybe that will be added for a future update.

This lets me either pre-enter the questions and answers of take notes as and when. I normally get my couple to email me the answers then discuss, so i like that i can now enter the answers into my iphone without it being a plain text note.

This is the Client Information Screen, this is the heart of the Second Shootr application - here is where you can store equipment lists, events and details about the venue co-ordinator. It all works nice an slickly - saves me having to remember what's where.

You can navigate to the brides house for example with maps integration (or in fact anywhere you have the address details for) - this links to google maps, which works well. Of course what would be nice is to be able to link to TomTom (or navigation program of choice) instead so you can get even better directons. Though this isn't a deal breaker - Google maps works well enough.

make sure you don't miss any of those shots you must take at each wedding or on a per wedding basis. I setup a standard set of shots but also add to them for each wedding (each one is unique remember) - the last thing i want is for each wedding to look the same but with different people! Though you are always going to want a ring photograph and a photograph of the dress, and to make sure you don't forget this feature is pretty good- you can even put one of your own images to give you a visual aid. Though remember this isn't an excuse to shoot the whole wedding on an iphone. That would be iphoneweddings.com

make sure i don't forget the essentials, i don't make massive use of this as you can see, but, i can see how for some photographers a list of kit would be super essential:

Setup how you want the app to work including your defaults, this is where you can access the defaults for the various categories:

Save you having to type the same thing in several times by entering it as default data, this works really well for things like questionaires, gear, must take photos, group photos. Not so well for events at the wedding as the times are all wrong :)

Overall
I like Second Shootr and it's definitely worth the money, before i had been playing with having the details in my calendar then notes with other information about the wedding in, or emailing myself a sheet of information.

Now with Second Shootr i don't need to do that - it's all at my fingertips in one place.

So if you're a wedding photographer then I'd highly recommend buying this application to keep track of your weddings when you're out and about - and it becomes invaluable on the wedding day itself, i like the ability to setup an itinerary of the day, and to put key names in, and linked with the list of must have shots you have a very easy way to track the day as it unfolds. Great for helping keep everything on track.

In short if you've not bought an iPhone app yet, this could be your first one!
